About Dickinson County Conservation Board

Welcome to the Dickinson County Conservation Board, your community gateway to nature exploration and environmental education in Okoboji, Iowa! As stewards of the natural beauty in Northwest Iowa, our mission is to connect people of all ages with the wonders of the outdoors through engaging programs, interactive experiences, and community events.

At our Nature Center, we invite children, families, and adults to discover, learn, and be inspired by the natural world. Our youth programs are designed to nurture curiosity and foster a lifelong appreciation for science and environmental stewardship. From "Nature Tots"—a fun, interactive session for ages 2-5—to "Nature Explorers" for elementary-aged children, your child can experience hands-on learning in a welcoming and safe environment. For the littlest nature lovers, our "Baby Biologist" program offers infants under 2 and their caregivers a chance to connect with foundational learning concepts in nature.

Adults are warmly welcomed to explore with programs such as the "Kenue Coffee Hour," a free gathering at the Maser Monarch Lodge where you can connect with other nature enthusiasts over inspiring topics. For bird lovers, join expert-led "Birding on the Green" sessions to observe local and migratory birds across Brooks Golf Course—perfect for both seasoned birders and newcomers alike.

Special events like our summer “DNR Partnership: Following the Inkpaduta Canoe Trail” offer enriching opportunities to study geology and wildlife, deepening your connection with Iowa’s unique ecosystems. Our team is passionate about education, conservation, and creating inclusive experiences for everyone. Whether you’re seeking a fun family outing, want to expand your science understanding, or simply looking to relax in Iowa’s natural beauty, Dickinson County Conservation Board provides programs and events that will inspire and educate.

Plan your visit—our Nature Center is open Tuesday through Saturday. Experience the joy of discovery, the value of community, and the lasting impact of conservation. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
